DRESS CODE

Parkview Schoolwide Dress Code

(Pursuant to A.R. 5132 (a))

 

Gang-Related apparel is defined as apparel that reasonably could be determined to threaten the health and safety of the school environment if it were worn or displayed on a school campus.  (Education Code 35294.1)

 

School dress codes are regularly reviewed by the School Site Council following these board of education policies.

 

1. Clothing should be appropriate for a learning environment and all school activities. Clothing must fit properly and not be excessively tight, loose, or revealing.

2. Shoes must be worn at all times.  Shoes must be closed-toed and closed-heeled. Heels should be one inch or less. 

3. Clothing, accessories, and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym bags, water bottles, etc.) shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which are gang-related, crude, vulgar, profane, violent, or sexually suggestive, which bear drug, alcohol or tobacco company advertising, promotions, and likeness, or which advocate racial, ethnic or religious prejudice. Clothing must be free from images of any weapons. Raiders, Cowboys, and White Sox are considered gang-related. 

4. Hats, caps, and other head coverings shall be permitted indoors at the staff member’s discretion. Religious and cultural exemptions are permitted. 

5. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. Clothing should be of adequate length at which kids can sit, run, climb, and play comfortably and with modesty. Pants with holes should be modest. Shirts must have a shoulder strap at least one inch in width. 

6. Hair shall be clean and neatly groomed.  Hair may not be sprayed by any coloring that would drip when wet except on school spirit dress-up days. Nails should be clean, trimmed, and not exceed the fingertip length ensuring children can safely participate in all school activities.
